WHY AWLA?

The Hon. Patricia K. Norris was honored at the AWLA-Maricopa Chapter Wine and Cheese Reception in October of 2010 for her steadfast commitment to the advancement of women in the legal profession.  To read her thoughtful remarks given at the Reception, including her thoughts on how AWLA has been important to her career and those of other women lawyers, click here:

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Cost-Effective Education. AWLA provides free or low-cost CLE through monthly luncheons, special programs, and an annual convention. Though not all luncheons offer CLE topics, luncheon speakers unfailingly address issues important to the lives and work of our members. Check out our Event Calendar for more information about upcoming events in your area.

Networking. Members know that the relationships fostered not only provide professional benefits, but also personal satisfaction. After all, the attorneys and judges you add to your circle of friends are ultimately colleagues who understand the pleasures and pressures of practicing law. AWLA encourages referrals among members by creating an annual Membership Directory, listing members by geographic and practice areas, and providing the directory on-line via our websites. AWLA also sponsors “members only” social events, encourages the creation of mentoring relationships, participates in community events, and promotes the accomplishments of members.

Advocacy. AWLA offers comprehensive assistance for members seeking appointment or election to judicial office and champions diversity on the bench by monitoring the process of judicial appointments in Arizona and by actively supporting AWLA member campaigns. AWLA has also undertaken a study of gender equity practices in the State of Arizona, with the goal of identifying, creating and promoting best practices for the workplace.
