Keynote Speaker: Mount Everest Climber Nancy Feagin
In 2001, Nancy Feagin became only the 11th American woman to climb Mount Everest. “The Power of Commitment: Rising Above Overwhelming Adversity on the Ascent of Mount Everest” is Nancy’s riveting story of her ascent of the world’s highest mountain. Invited to be the lead climber in the 2001 expedition, Nancy forged a highly dependable team out of a diverse group of strangers. Then, at Camp II, personal disaster stuck. Nancy developed a case of high altitude pulmonary edema, an unpredictable and often fatal condition that forces climbers off the mountain and out of the game, sometimes forever. She was forced to descend slowly and come to terms with catastrophic failure. After days of soul searching, Nancy decided to fly in the face of universal advice and conventional wisdom and make another bid for the summit. Incredibly -- relying on the team she had built and her own dauntless will – ten exhausting days later, Nancy reached the summit of Everest. Nancy has appeared on “Good Morning America” and in National Geographic Magazine and has spoken to audiences (including NASA) about her story.

Dr. Jampolis specializes exclusively in nutrition for weight loss and disease prevention and treatment and is author of the No-Time-to-Lose-Diet, published in 2007. As our nation’s obesity continues to grow, popular diets are in the news on a regular basis. Are these diets healthy and do any of them actually work? Dr. Jampolis will review the most popular diets and explain the science behind them, as well as outline an approach to dieting based on the latest research and geared not only toward weight loss but to optimal health. She has appeared on “Regis and Kelly” and hosted the multi-episode Discovery Network diet program, “Fit TV Diet Doctor.”
